WHY LESS IS MORE.

Have you ever heard of the saying less is more? It is almost related to too many cooks spoil the broth. Let's take the saying in our context: working out. It may sound weird that I'd say working out less is far much more better than doing so much everyday.

Let me explain. Some workouts end bulking us up or making us looking bigger than we wanted to look mainly because they strain our muscles so much and they grow bigger the more we keep on working out. Such workouts are swimming, running, squats, lunges, burpees basically any workout that is HIIT.I talked about HIIT in more details be sure to check that out in my other post

We are getting somewhere now, ain't we? So you may be asking should I just stay at home doing nothing and I'll get lose weight and get toned. Absolutely not. The biggest secret to losing weight is not doing crazy workouts in the gym or running miles on end every morning. The secret is in diet. But we will talk about that in another post.

What should I do then? Do more of low intensity workouts as simple as that. Low intensity workouts include my favorite which is POWER WALKING. You must have noticed that am so big on walking. This is because its so simple yet effective. Try do walking for two to three days a week for at least one hour. That should be around 10000steps or 7km on average. You can start with 2000 steps a day and work your way upwards. Walking does not bulk you up since it is more of LISS.

You can also do simple workouts and streches. Two people I know who post that kind of workouts are Racheal Attard and Sanne Vander. These are very simple workouts that help you tone up easily without bulk. Most of these are model friendly and hey we are all looking for that model leg look right?

So it is not about getting all crazy in the gym but chill and do your thing. After all, we are all about working out smart not hard.

WORKOUTS THAT CAN BULK UP

I must start by saying that there is no workout that can be regarded as a 'bad' workout and you should avoid it because it will bulk you up. It all depends on how much you keep doing it and what muscles are mostly used. In today's blog post, let's talk about the kind of workouts that when overdone are likely to add muscle. Squats Lunges High Knees Traditional HIIT(that which includes loads of jumping) Running up a hill Using the elliptical and stair master Lifting heavy weights Jumping rope To know exactly how they add bulk please read this post  here A lot of the above workouts focus so much on the quads and hamstrings. They will probably overwork these muscles leading them to grow bigger. Maybe too much than your liking.  The key here is not to avoid them but to do them in moderation. If you do a squat as a warmup. Then that is probably not a big problem. If you do HIIT twice a week, that is also acceptable. Want to know which workouts will not bulk you up. Click Here
