Calves are some of the most common trouble spots among women. It is that part that is behind the leg just below the knee. Sadly, if we overwork the muscles there this muscle will grow too big for our liking.
To some of us, this is usually not our end goal when we start to work out to slim down our thighs.
The most common reason why your calves might grow bigger is because of overworking out.
Some workouts in particular overuse the calf muscles and make them bigger.
Some of these workouts are;
- Jumping Rope.
- Running too much especially when you use the toes in running.
- Cycling.
- Elevated walks.
- Stairs training.
I am not against such workouts, it is just because a lot of us are looking to slim down our legs without building extra muscle.
So here's how you can work out right avoiding building extra muscle in the calves.
- Do all your walks on a flat surface
- Do all the runs on a flat surface use the heel-toe technique while running so all your foot is on the ground.
- Do the type of bodyweight training that does not focus so much on stopping but stretching. Some of it is available on my channel.
Just remember that you really cannot spot reduce fat. So you'll need to focus on losing overall weight first to lose some of that fat or muscle in your legs.
Another note is that sometimes getting a bigger calf is caused by genetics. In this there is not much that can be done but if you follow the steps above and focus on losing overall weight some of that muscle or fat will be burned and you'll see a difference in your calves.
